Thank you, Jenna! Yes, the “third thing” idea seemed to be the best description of collage that has occurred to me. Taking images and materials that already have their own live, combining them and making something entirely new. I haven’t read a lot of scholarship about collage, but I’m sure someone has written something close to how I described it.
